On June 6, the European Confederation of Conservator Restorers’ Organisations (ECCO) celebrated its 25th anniversary with an event which was graciously hosted by the German Association of Conservator-Restorers (VDR) within the beautiful halls of the Bode Museum a day after the General Assembly and a meeting of the Presidents that took place at the Neue Museum in Berlin (Germany).
A series of presentations at the conference focused on the challenges facing those professionals who are engaged in the field of restoration and conservation, the cultural and educational requirements that this very articulated category is expected to satisfy in a sector that is in rapid evolution.
The conference offered also an opportunity for a retrospective presentation of ECCO engagement through the years at the presence of several institutional representatives including ICCROM, the EU and ENCoRE among other organisations. Presentations that confirmed the effort made by the Confederation to promote consistent institutional relationships and to secure cooperation for the harmonisation between the European practices engaged in the sector and a clearer definition of the professional competences required in an increasingly articulated multidisciplinary sector.
Today ECCO represents over 6000 conservator restorers’ that are members of the associate organisations in 22 EU and EFTA countries and, to this extent, it can be regarded as the biggest organisation representing the category in Europe. In consideration of the good work made, the results it achieved and the commitment to quality in professional performance, we wish ECCO to continue with its good work for the benefit of the entire sector.
