FOCUH Friends of Cultural Heritage (KUMID in Turkish) celebrated its 10th anniversary today with an event organised at the Maritime Museum in Istanbul.
An NGO created in 2005 by a group of highly qualified professionals, scholars, researchers and private citizens who are passionately engaged in the protection of cultural heritage in times of peace but also during and in the aftermath of conflicts in Turkey and worldwide.
The translation from English into Turkish language of six handbooks was presented at the event including: Security at Museums; Care and Handling of Manuscripts; Documentation of Artefact Collections; Disaster Risk Management for Museums; Handling of Collections in Storage; Securing Heritage of Religious Interest. These translations were conducted in cooperation with the National Commission of UNESCO in Turkey and UNESCO Paris.
Since its foundation, FOCUH organised and implemented several national and international initiatives contributing to increase public awareness on the needs to protect cultural heritage endangered by extreme natural events and human activities. FOCUH led or participated as a partner in several EU funded projects gaining a unique international experience.
