Hazard and Disaster Risk: Ostia and Portus
between hypothesis and reality. 22-24 June 22
A conference focusing on disasters that impacted on archaeological and historic sites from the antiquity through our days will take place in Ostia Antica (Rome, Italy) from June 22 through 24.
Studying the dynamics of past events is key to better understanding current and future threats posed to cultural and natural heritage sites and deploy the most ‘appropriate’ protection and disasters risk reduction measures’.
Scientists and scholars from several countries will present the state of their research on the effects of earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and other catastrophic events on heritage sites including the Ancient Ostia, Portus, Hercolaneum, Pompeii and the Hispanic Southwest Atlantic coastal area.
The catastrophic impact of those highly destructive events will be analysed also in a perspective aiming to define strategies and possible protective measures for those ancient landmarks still relevant through our days.
